Description

Current owner has owned this boat for over 40 years

Victoria is a Columbia 52 designed by William Tripp just before he was killed in an automobile accident in 1972. The hull was molded in spring of 73 and she was launched in August of 74.
Victoria was one of the first designs that Tripp did to the then new IOR rule. I raced her out of Los Angeles Yacht Club and won more than my fair share of first places in the local racing scene for the first ten years. In 2005, my wife and I decided to convert Victoria from a racing machine to a cruising machine. I believe that we were very successful. We replaced the old Perkins 4108 diesel with a new Yanmar diesel. We added 5 large solar panels (that serve as our bimini over the steering station). We replaced the old heavy spinnaker pole with a very light carbon fiber one. We added socks to the spinnakers and installed a luff furling staysail (8 oz. material) for going to weather in over 12 knots of wind. We added a GPS chart plotter, auto pilot, and windless for the 250 feet of anchor rode. We found and purchased a heavy duty battery operated, right angle drill that makes all of the winches on Victoria easily driven. At 200 pounds, my wife can easily hoist me to the top of the 69 foot mast.
We converted a “40” year old racing machine into an easily handled cruising machine that a couple can easily sail. We have sailed her by ourselves from Bahia de Los Angeles to Zihuatanejo.

This vessel is located in beautiful San Carlos Sonora, Mexico, A short 250 mile drive on a safe 4 lane highway from Nogales, Az. San Carlos is a known boating destination/community, featuring breathtaking scenery, quiet anchorages nearby, great fishing, diving, two marinas, 3 haul out facilities and much more.
